Current News:
Google is coming to McKinley! Next Thursday, May 24th, Google Expeditions will be spending the day at school to allow 20 classrooms to experience an Augmented Reality (AR) lesson. We are very grateful to be selected this year and can't wait to take a virtual field trip!
On Thursday, 2/15, McKinley students literally broken the ground for our school garden by constructing garden boxes (5th grade) and planting fruits, vegetables, and herbs (1st grade)! Click here or select that page "School Garden" from the dropdown tab to follow this "growing" story and how it continues to "bloom!"
Hour of Code! This week, Dec. 4-10th, is the Hour of Code. Students at McKinley, K-5, have been working on coding this year since October. Our 4th & 5th grade classes accepted the Google Doodle challenge and coded their own Google Doodle Logo based upon skills they learned in scratch. Check out their projects by clicking this link! Robotics Club will be starting on Monday, Oct 2nd in the STEM Lab. Forms for 5th graders to apply were handed out on Thursday, Sept. 21st. Forms needs to be returned by Monday, Sept. 25th to be considered. We will be working with LEGO EV3s.
Note: All current grades and project pictures found on each grade's page will be left up until Sunday, September 24th. Then, I will archive these pictures so that 2017-2018 projects can be posted! Check back after the 24th for current pictures!

We're creating a garden! McKinley Elementary was awarded a grant by Action for Healthy Kids, which supports healthy physical activity and nutrition. The grant we submitted was to extend these healthy choices by creating a school garden! Various grades at McKinley will be working on the garden project, along with the help of LADWP, to create an edible garden by the end of the year! If you'd like to help in any way, please fill out the form during Back to School Night, or contact me at [email protected]
